Some people argue that the fittest and strongest individuals and teams can achieve the greatest success in sports. But other people think success is much related to the mental attitude. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
心理素质更重要
Since sports have become a big draw, sports managers constantly seek ways to recruit the best athletes to guarantee victory. However, there are opposing views on who to select, as some team managers favor the most physically-gifted athletes, while others believe that an athlete’s frame of mind is more important.
Many people consider the physical attributes of an athlete as the determining factor for success. Their general idea is that the more physical advantages the athletes have, the greater the chances they will succeed - injuries and bad luck aside. This is why both professional and amateur coaches drool over the chance to get the fastest, strongest, tallest, and most-skilled athletes. With such studs on their team, success is practically guaranteed.
However, not everybody agrees that the physically talented competitors always win. There are times when someone who was not as gifted but was mentally tougher won the contest. This is why other sports managers invest more in athletes who are disciplined, dedicated to their craft, and willing to lay it all on the line for glory. Without the right mental attitude, the individual or team will succumb to pressure, losing it all, even if they are supposedly better than their opponents.
Between the two views, I agree with the latter. Although physical attributes can give a slight advantage at the start, the right mental attitude is needed to win it all. There will be plenty of ups and downs in sports, such as injuries, quarrels within the team, and comments from the fans. If athletes are not mentally tough, it will be easy to forget their training and game plan, costing them the win. That is why mental toughness and discipline trump physical giftedness in sports.
