Currently, large numbers of animal species are on the verge of ceasing to exist. It is argued that humans should be responsible for protecting animals from extinction, while others believe focusing on issues faced by humans should be of greater concern. I believe that we should primarily concentrate on fixing issues faced by humans.
Animals should be prevented from dying out because they play a vital role in various ecosystems. For example, once a species that another species uses for sustenance goes extinct, the population of that species also decreases because finding food is more difficult. When the extinction of these species continually occurs, human beings who are believed to be at the top of the food chain will eventually face the shortage of food. Therefore, ending practices that directly threaten the survival of certain species will contribute to the well-being of human races.
On the other hand, some issues faced by humans have a larger impact on the world and I believe we should pay more attention to them. Problems like crime and poverty affect a large proportion of world population. Once these problems are addressed, the general population feels much happier because of improved living conditions and safer environment. Conversely, very few people would develop a sense of satisfaction towards life if they have to resort to shabby shelter and contaminated water. In other words, saving more species from dying out would not do good to solving other problems in our society.
Overall, I believe focusing primarily on problems affecting humans will allow the world to become a better place.
