Nowadays, there are many television advertisements aimed at children. What are the effects of these advertisements on children? Should TV advertisements be controlled?
支持监管儿童广告
Nowadays, there are many television advertisements mainly promoting products to children. I think it is necessary to regulate certain kinds of advertisements as they may harm young viewers in many cases.
There is no doubt that advertisements have a stronger influence on children compared to adults. It is widely recognized that the brains of children are not fully developed, making it challenging for them to make informed decisions about the products they should be using. Consequently, they are more likely to be enticed by inappropriate items such as toys that are not suitable for their age group.
Furthermore, due to limited pocket money, some young individuals may resort to risky methods to acquire the funds needed to purchase what they see on television. Some may even go as far as stealing money from their parents, while others may threaten their parents that they would leave home if they do not receive the desired toys within a specific time frame. Either way, advertising has encouraged children to misbehave at the risk of breaking the law or ruining parent-child relationship.
The control of advertising should particularly be strict with dangerous items for children. This includes the advertising of alcohol, cigarettes, or prescription drugs on various forms of media primarily watched by the young. Without control, the younger generations may grow up with alcohol addiction, drug abuse as well as other serious health issues. In the long run, the negative impact will be seen in increasing crime rates and high cost of medical expenses. As for other products that positively contribute to children’s development, the control can be more flexible. In conclusion, potentially dangerous items should not be broadcasted on television considering the sides effects on children.
