Research into new types of medicines and treatments are essential for improving health and dealing with diseases. Who do you think should fund these researches: private companies, individuals or governments?
政府应为主要出资方
Although almost everyone agrees that research for medical advancements is vital for our society, there is a concern about who should fund this. At the moment, such research is funded by companies, wealthy individuals, and governments. However, in my opinion, the government should be responsible for most of this research since it is the most impartial.
It is the government’s responsibility to take care of the interests of its citizens, and this includes dealing with health issues that may threaten the population. As such, the government will naturally fund advanced medical research that aids the general public, not just a select few.
Furthermore, government officials are held accountable to citizens through our election system. So if they are not doing a good job, they may be voted out, which is a good incentive to always do the right thing.
On the other hand, individuals and private companies are less likely to be motivated by a desire to help the majority. Though some wealthy individuals fund medical research for philanthropic reasons, that does not mean they are free from biases. They might, for example, only fund research into diseases that have personally affected them rather than those that are a larger threat to the population. Private companies, however, are generally driven by profits. Thus, if they were to oversee medical research, they would probably only fund projects that could make the most money, even if these are not the most pressing health concerns.
In conclusion, given the potential risks in making individuals or private companies accountable for financing medical research, it would be best for the government to do this. It exists to serve and protect the citizens, making it the best option among the three.
