Some people believe famous people's support towards international aid organizations draws the attention to problems, while others think celebrities make the problems less important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
有明星参与帮助会很大
International charities are under constant pressure to raise money. With many organizations competing for donations, enlisting the help of celebrities has become a popular way to increase people’s awareness of certain problems. I think this strategy has the potential to be effective.
There is no doubt that celebrities such as famous singers or sports stars are in a unique position. If a music group such as the legendary Irish rock band U2 wants to turn the spotlight on the plight of drought-stricken countries or the destruction of the rainforests for example, they will have a much better chance of achieving this and securing support than a politician would. If U2 is willing to perform a benefit concert to promote a cause, not only will the concert sell out immediately, but there will also be widespread media coverage of both the story and the cause.
Some people maintain that celebrities detract from the problem, as members of the public may then tend to focus on the celebrities instead of the issue at hand. Fans attending a benefit concert may be oblivious to the fact that the proceeds of the event will be donated to a particular charity. In this case, the objective of making people more conscious of the situation has clearly not been achieved. Still, the fact remains that at least the charity has succeeded in raising some much-needed funds.
In conclusion, without the involvement of celebrities, people would be ill-informed about many different issues which deserve attention today. If celebrities are sincere in aiding the cause, the positive effects of their support will outweigh the negatives.
