Space travel has been possible for some time and some people believe that space tourism could be developed in the future. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
将会是消极的发展方向
With many nations and private corporations now involved in space travel, some believe that space tourism could soon become the next vacation trend. While this possibility may stir excitement in would-be space tourists, I think space tourism is not a positive development.
Currently, the world is struggling with climate change and other resource issues, so space tourism will just add to the mess. Rockets consume hundreds, if not thousands, of gallons of fuel that will just add more pollutants to the air.
Besides, fossil fuels are finite; they do not replenish on their own. The parts of these rockets and space shuttles also require metals and other rare minerals just to make them work. So, it seems quite excessive to use all of these resources just so that people can have fun in outer space.
Space tourism is likely to heighten the disparities and conflicts between the wealthy and the underprivileged. Imagine that if TVs and social media were filled with pictures and videos about how some of the rich people were enjoying their vacation among the stars and laughing at the poor ones for having no chance to experience it, revenge from the underprivileged might happen sooner or later.
Furthermore, should space tourism truly take off, it is inevitable that wealthy nations will take advantage of poorer countries that have space-related resources. Therefore, instead of promoting unity and peace, space tourism will just make things worse, possibly leading to more unrest in the world.
In summary, though some may consider space tourism as the next level of human entertainment and relaxation, it really is not all that good. Conserving earth’s resources and promoting genuine peace are more important, and these are things space tourism does not address at all.
