Some people believe that when designing a building, the most important thing to be considered is the function rather than the outward appearance. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that functionality, rather than aesthetics and appearance, should be the primary consideration when designing a building. I agree with this point, and I will outline the case for practicality and cost efficiency.
Typically, the creation of a structure is done to fulfill a purpose which can range from business offices and supermarkets to residential areas and religious institutions. Regardless of whether a building is dull in appearance, it can still satisfy the needs of its occupants. For example, IKEA, which uses enormous plain-looking warehouses that are divided into separate sections to showcase their products, can reap considerable profits despite the appearance of its buildings. Crucially, despite being dull, the buildings satisfy customer demands because they allow for spacious and straightforward shopping, this means functionality, rather than appearance should be of more significance when designing buildings.
Additionally, designing structures that are pleasing to the eye is often excessively costly and unnecessary. I have noticed, for example, that many old churches in western countries were intricately designed, either costing the government millions of dollars to build or relying on the donations of poor followers. However, more recently, churches have begun to modernize, without compromising the quality of worship. This transformation comes at a fraction of the cost and provides greater value to worshippers. Therefore, structures that fulfill their purposes at a lower cost are superior to those looking impressive on the outside because the practical ones are more cost-effective.
In summary, I believe that a building's use surpasses the significance of aesthetic values despite its visual appeal. Focusing on functionality and cost-effectiveness is a far better choice than concentrating on appearance.
