Some people think that cultural traditions will be destroyed when they are used as money-making machines aimed at tourists, other people believe that it is the only way to save such traditions in the world today. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
支持以文化吸引游客
In many places worldwide, cultural traditions are promoted to attract tourists. Some sectors are against the practice, believing their culture will be badly affected, but others say such promotions may be the only way to keep their traditions alive.
Many purists are against using their traditions for tourism because they know that event organizers often alter cultural aspects to meet tourists’ expectations. Organizers do this by adding new elements to make their traditions more appealing or glossing over aspects that tourists may find offensive. Another issue is that cultural traditions may lose their meaning in the hearts and minds of the people. Similar to how commercialization has devalued some religious holidays, many know the same will happen to their traditions because of tourism.
In contrast, some strongly believe these tourist promotions are the only way to revive their cultural practices. If cultural practices become a draw for tourists, the government is motivated to support related efforts to preserve culture because of the exposure and taxes received through tourism.
Furthermore, popularizing cultural traditions may attract the young. Because of globalization and the internet, young people are ignoring and forgetting cultural practices since these are not mainstream. However, if such practices become popular worldwide, the youth may finally become proud of their roots.
In my opinion, it is okay to attract tourists through cultural traditions. This will provide the community with needed income and strengthen the study and appreciation of the local culture. The youth will also be encouraged to love their traditions, something necessary for these traditions to survive into the future. However, steps must be made to protect cultural traditions to retain their original purposes and meanings. If done well, the societies concerned will benefit much as they will earn while preserving their culture.
