Today, there are many tasks at home or work that are done by robots. Is this a positive or negative development?
是一个积极的趋势,应该学习如何适应这个趋势
Recent technological innovations have allowed robots to assist at home or work. While many people laud this development, some believe it is not good. In my view, having robots to help at home or work is generally a positive development.
The biggest reason why this is good for society is that people would have more time to focus on what is important. Robots at home often assist with mundane tasks like vacuuming the floor or washing the dishes. While such tasks are not difficult, they take up time that could be used elsewhere. The same is true in the workplace. Rather than having personnel screw on bottle caps in the factory, for example, workers could be doing something more critical.
Another benefit is that robots are more efficient and less prone to errors. Many of the tasks assigned to them are considered trivial. Although people can do them, asking someone to do the same task repetitively for long hours will lead to problems. Robots do not need rest and can do things precisely repeatedly, provided that nothing goes wrong with their electronics.
Nevertheless, some are against their usage because these machines are replacing human workers, leading to unemployment. While their concern may be valid in the short term, if the government works swiftly to address the issue, displaced workers could still find other kinds of work despite the widespread use of robots. Looking at the not-so-distant past, horse-drawn carriages were replaced by modern vehicles, meaning the job position became outdated. However, such workers found ways to survive by gaining new skills to adapt to the new work environment. So, this phenomenon of change is nothing new.
In summary, the use of robots at home and work is something humankind should be thankful for, as it relegates not-so-important tasks to machines. Rather than rallying against this phenomenon, we should support it yet find means to help those that need to reskill.
