For the past decade or so, many sectors have been warning about and trying to solve a plethora of environmental concerns, yet not much has happened to solve any of them. This essay will discuss possible reasons why these problems persist and what can be done.
A big reason why problems like climate change and water pollution still exist is because companies and even countries are not willing to truly work together. Sometimes, there will be treaties signed in which leaders pledge to reduce emissions and enforce pollution laws, but at the end of the day, these things do not happen. Some say the failure results from the fact that leaders have their own agendas or even that oil companies pay off politicians. Regardless, there is a lack of cooperation.
Another reason is the practicality of going green. While it sounds nice if everyone could start using electric vehicles, these machines are still too expensive for the average person, and needed infrastructure, like a multitude of charging stations, is lacking.
Furthermore, solar panel technology is not yet effective enough to power homes and businesses reliably, forcing people to stick to coal-generated electricity.
To resolve these issues, the people who vote for these leaders need to finally get serious about saving nature. If leaders do not do as they say, voters should ensure they are not re-elected.
Moreover, citizens should pressure leaders to implement the right changes for nature. Business owners should also do their part by committing to processes that are not harmful to nature, even if their profit margins are reduced. Lastly, there should be a push to develop efficient and cost-effective fuel alternatives and other technologies that can solve issues like water pollution, land degradation, and such.
In summary, a lack of cooperation and the presence of practical difficulties are the reasons why environmental problems still exist. Thankfully, all is not lost since there are viable solutions.
