Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to solve. Others, however, believe that these problems cannot be solved if individuals do not take actions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
个人的参与总的来说会对环境问题的解决起到重要影响
Some people think that environmental problems cannot be solved by individuals while other people believe that individuals’ involvement can make a big difference. I strongly agree that individuals can play a major role in solving our environmental problems.
There is no doubt that major entities such as governments, large companies, and organizations can have an immediate and major impact in solving our environmental problems when compared with individuals’ efficiency. Governments which enforce laws and regulations can certainly accomplish a lot in just a short amount of time. The same can be said for company or organizational initiatives, whether mandated or voluntary.
Nevertheless, all governments, companies, and organizations are comprised of individuals who can often dictate or determine rules, regulations, or initiatives by the entities they work for. Sometimes there is a “from the bottom up” movement in these entities in which individuals impose their will or beliefs to dictate the policies and actions of the larger entities.
Also, laws and initiatives can provide the foundation to solve environmental problems, but none of those laws or initiatives will matter if citizens decide not to follow. For example, some people may keep wasting water for household use despite the fact that they may need to pay much more once they exceed the limit.
In our efforts to solve environmental problems, the power of individuals cannot be understated or underestimated. Although one person alone cannot solve all environmental problems, a group of people with similar beliefs can certainly make a difference in helping to solve these problems.
