Today, there is much emphasis on sports in the community and TV. However, some critics say sport is simply another form of leisure, not something to highlight. In my view, I agree that sports should be an essential part of society.
Some believe that sports are necessary to develop an active lifestyle and learn camaraderie. When people played sports at a young age, they grow up to become healthier and more cooperative citizens, greatly benefiting society.
Furthermore, sports bring nations together in healthy competition, allowing countries to learn about each other. Tournaments such as the Olympics provide a venue for countries to showcase athletes’ talents and appreciate one another as exemplary models of humankind.
Nevertheless, some naysayers claim that people do not need sports to be healthy or learn about cooperation. Instead, health can be maintained by simply walking and eating right, while cooperation can be learned through school projects.
Moreover, they disagree that sport unites people since rivalries are more emphasized than sportsmanship. In critics' minds, sport is simply another form of entertainment.
Despite such negative thoughts, I still believe sports is essential. Sustaining a healthy lifestyle is difficult if people are not excited about staying fit. But when people develop a love of sports, they will probably keep playing in the future.
Additionally, many have observed that the playing field is a way for countries to learn and appreciate one another. I have read many stories about athletes learning to put away their differences and respecting their opponents in these competitions. They then share their experiences with their fanbase, causing even more people to finally understand and care for all humanity. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, playing sports is something we should continue to promote in society: It is more than just a leisurely pursuit.
