Nowadays, people tend to wear western style clothes rather than traditional clothes. What are the reasons? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
总体来说是积极的发展
In many places, people wear western fashion styles, not their traditional clothing. This essay will propose reasons why this is happening and present my view on the matter as well.
One possible reason behind this occurrence is the global popularity of western media, be it from the US, UK, Australia, or other such countries. Since these shows often portray events – fictional or nonfictional – in these said countries, the characters on the show usually wear western clothing, gaining the viewers' attention. Celebrities from the West also tout their fashion, enticing fans around the globe to wear what they are promoting. Hence, people think wearing the same clothes as others is better than wearing traditional ones.
Another reason is that many western countries are highly developed, so their way of life, including their fashion, is admired. Since many people from developing countries look up to them, it is also natural to have a high regard for what people there wear. Thus, instead of traditional clothing, they prefer western fashion since it makes them feel modern and sophisticated like the citizens from such developed countries.
Although some might be against this fashion phenomenon, I believe it is positive. Modern western clothing is made for both comfort and style. So, it is okay if people in other countries dress similarly if such fashion makes them look and feel good.
Besides, wearing western fashion does not necessarily mean people have lost their cultural identity. In fact, many have found ways to integrate their cultural heritage into the western clothing they wear, distinguishing them from western cultures.
In summary, western fashion has seemingly become the norm worldwide because of media and admiration of the West. Despite this, it is still positive overall because of the comfort such clothing gives and because people wearing them have not necessarily traded in their cultural identity.
