Some people believe that teenagers should concentrate on all school subjects. Others believe that teenagers should focus on the subject that they are best at or that they find the most interesting. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
中立,学生的兴趣和全面发展一样重要。
Some people find it difficult to decide whether they should allow students to choose their favourite subjects or force them to receive an all-round education. I would say that students’ interest and well-rounded training are equally important.
Some people are strong advocates of a well-rounded education because this kind of education can help students gain knowledge in multiple areas. Focusing solely on preferred subjects can hinder students' ability to connect with other fields. For example, if they only learn science and ignore languages, they may find it hard to understand some publications in other languages. But learning a language will assist them in learning the original ideas rather than being misled by the translated versions which may be inaccurate.
However, some worry that an overloaded curriculum hinders academic performance. Teenagers have limited energy. If they spend more time on what they like, they probably can achieve better academic performance. This can even enhance their confidence in studying. The sense of achievement further encourages them to be experts in a specific field.
My personal view is that we should reconcile students’ interest with all-round education. Students can be encouraged to choose some of their favourites, while they must take core subjects. In this way, they develop great passion towards their preferences while still having a better chance to enter a top university because of having knowledge and skills in other essential fields.
In conclusion, students’ interests are critical in the development of intelligence, and a well-rounded education is a stepping-stone for most students. Therefore, we should take both factors into consideration when making the curriculum.
