Some people say that art subjects such as painting or drawing should not be made compulsory for high school students. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued whether high school students should have to study art related subjects. My opinion is that learning about art will certainly benefit these students, so I think there is a need to make painting and drawing classes part of the core syllabus.
People who believe that art courses should not be mandatory contend that studying art is a waste of valuable time. Teenagers are often unwilling to participate in art classes as most students have limited artistic abilities and are unlikely to make a living as painters or illustrators. For this reason, high school students are believed to be better off focusing on traditional academic subjects such as math and English, or more contemporary fields such as communication and media studies, which are more likely to be relevant to their future careers.
However, others think that high schools should not exclude art subjects. After all, education is not just about preparing students for career success. Everyone has a practical side and a creative side. Even though a student intends to be an accountant, he might also find that he enjoys more artistic pastimes such as painting, drawing, acting, singing, or dancing. Art encourages self-expression and helps to build students’ confidence.
In addition, research has shown that as well as having the opportunity to develop their imagination and creativity, students who attend art classes also perform better academically.
Although some high schools may object to promoting art courses, education authorities must recognize how important they are to a teenager’s development and include relevant courses as part of compulsory curriculum.
